Harold Wood Cricket Club Sunday 'A' v Grass Roots Academy on Sun 17 Apr 2011 at 13.00pm
Harold Wood Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
5 overs of fireworks lead Academy side to amazing win
HAROLD WOOD were dealt a major shock by some clean striking at the death, as the impressive youngsters of the Grass Roots Academy stormed to a 5 wicket win with an over to spare.
Put into bat, Wood posted a excellent 256-9 in their 45 overs. Impressive contributions from Razor (39) and Shaf (50 plus) laid the foundations for a late onslaught from the skipper (50 plus) and Blondie (27 not out, though choking a little from getting the 30 runs he required to gain himself a “free” game). Though perhaps most impressive was T’s 4 hour bowling machine orientated batting practice in the nets which led to his brief stay at the crease. However at the interval, Wood were happy with the total they had reached.
Wood started off steadily when bowling, with Oz claiming an early scalp thanks to some interesting catching at point by Treacle. This brought the opposition skipper to the crease, who blazed his way to an impressive 34 in no time before he was expertly caught by the Coach at mid off, diving forward and taking a two handed catch inches off the turf, giving Oz his 2nd wicket of the match. Wood were in control of matters, with most bowlers enjoying a 5/6 over spell each. The Coach returning the most economical figures with 1 for 24 off 8 overs.
As the game wore on, the equation now read 70 needed off 6 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Enter Razor who was given a chance to shine with the ball, his 1st over costing a few. Then in the 41st over Pathan bhai picked up his 2nd wicket, leading to the number 7 batsmen for the Academy side coming into bat. He duly dispatched his 1st and 3rd ball for two mighty 6 sixes off Pathan bhai, somewhat ruining his figures. The next 3 overs were utter carnage and some of the finest clean hitting you’ll ever see. Razor’s two overs cost 27 runs, Skipper’s only over went for 11 and Imi’s return over, the 44th, proved to be the last one of the game, costing 15 runs and the Academy side had duly scored 70 runs in 5 overs to canter to a 5 wicket win.
