Harold Wood Cricket Club - 24 Hour Net

HAROLD WOOD CRICKET CLUB

“24-HOUR NET FOR NETS”

Thursday July 10th 2014 to Friday July 11th 2014

A group of cricketers from Harold Wood Cricket Club based in Harold Wood Park, Gubbins Lane, Essex are aiming to play cricket for 24-hours non-stop to earn much-needed donations to help build new practice nets for the club.

The club is an integral part of the community and offers coaching to a huge amount of people. The club has many sides, which play and train in the park and would make great use of new facilities. Teams include:

·      Adult Mens

·      Adult Ladies

·      Youth Academy boys under 8 - under 21

·      Youth Academy girls under 8 – under 21

·      Learning and Physical disabilities – Under 8 to Adult

The club plays cricket in the Shepherd Neame Essex League with their 1st XI earning promotion to the Premier Division for the 2014 season for the very first time.

The club is in desperate need of updating their practice facilities to go alongside the wonderful pavilion, which now stands in the park.

Harold Wood Cricket Club chairman Tom Clarke – “The new nets will cost upwards of £30,000 to put in place, and while there are grants available to help fund projects of this kind the club needs to raise some of this cost ourselves. The chance to be able to offer top-class nets to go along with the top-class cricket, which takes place in the park already is something that the club and community as a whole would benefit from. The group who are taking on the challenge, which includes myself, will have a huge challenge ahead of them, but it shows what people are willing to do for this much-loved club.”

The club’s project has received letters of support from Essex County Cricket Club, Havering Council, Friends of Harold Wood Park and Harold Wood Sports Association.

The 24-hour net is due to start on Thursday July 10th 2014 at 8pm and the group of 12 will take it in turn to bat throughout the full day bowling at each other in shifts. The challenge will end on Friday July 11th at 8pm, where there will be plenty of activities for supporters to do that evening to continue the fundraising and celebrate the achievement.
