Harold Wood Cricket Club Indoor (Met.) A Team v South Woodford on Sat 17 Nov 2012 at 9.55am
Harold Wood Cricket Club Won 40 runs

Match report by Chris Bennett

Mr Shahzad Hafeez has turned out to be a terrible tosser this season, losing 3 out of 4. Consequently a new Harold Wood combination began the game having been put in to bat by South Woodford.

Pete and Abdul walked into to bat to a barrage of medium paced bouncers. The inevitable struck and Abdul was run out in the opening exchanges. In walked Chris, and soon after out walked Chris having played a couple of decent shots then managing to get caught out by the shortest man in the opposition.

Mr Hafeez, local bat salesman/Harold Wood cricketer walked to the crease to join Pete who was struggling but toughed it out to make an important 25 in 7 overs. First team skipper/golden arm Floppy walked to the crease with the team struggling to get going. He left the crease with the team still struggling to get going, one walk across the stumps and flick to leg too many, although he kept the score ticking over.

Haroon entered the frame against his old teammates, to their surprise, and his team mates surprise he began by depositing the opposition bowler to all corners of the hall including a memorable 6 back over the bowlers head. Both Haroon and Mr Hafeez ended up retiring with 25, Pete coming back to add a few to his score before snicking the last ball of the innings behind.

Harold Wood had set 114-4, surely not enough in a hall where anything between 130-140 was par. Especially in a team boasting the very part time medium-slow of Floppy as a frontline bowler.

Harold Wood got off to a tight start in the field, then wickets began to tumble. Haroon getting things going with a caught and bowled, then Pete taking an excellent catch at point.

Someone up above must have been shining down on the Wood when Floppy managed to take 3 wickets. A catch using his stomach rolls, a world class stumping and a Haroon catch left the South Woodford batsmen looking for rope to go and hang themselves.

Harold Wood ended up winning by 40 runs. South Woodford hurried away to lick their wounds and begin their post mortem as to how they could fail to chase 114 in such spectacular fashion.

Post match milkshakes were enjoyed on the way home. Floppy got a bad straw from McDonalds, nothing was going to match up to the morning he had just had.
