Harold Wood Cricket Club Indoor (Met.) A Team v Chingford on Sat 08 Dec 2012 at 11am
Harold Wood Cricket Club Lost 26 runs
Match report
by Chris Bennett
Harold Wood looked to get back to winning ways against a strong Chingford side at the Peter May Centre. Having surprisingly won a toss Shaz elected to field first hoping in the knowledge that our batting was a strength, the skipper had faith in the Wood chasing down any total set.
Harold Wood bowled poorly and fielded even worse. That said we managed to get into the oppositions tail very quickly, however this was due to a number of top order retirements. Harold Wood eventually got their breakthrough in the 8th over with Shaz nicking off a tailender. A few wickets fell to run outs in the final few overs but the damage had been done. The bowling figures made grim reading, hence why they should be noted (in order of horror):
Floppy 3 overs 0 maidens 62 runs 0 wickets
Abdul 3 overs 0 maidens 52 runs 0 wickets
Craig 3 overs 0 maidens 44 runs 0 wickets
Shaz 3 overs 0 maidens 24 runs 1 wicket
Pete looked on in horror at the carnage that was inflicted and refused to look at Shaz at the end of the over just in case he told him to warm up. Unsurprisingly the keeper was keen for a bowl. Shockingly he was not required.
Chingford racked up 180 off their 12 overs. A big chase faced the Wood.
Harold Wood got off to a good start with Chris retiring early on having discovered the sweep shot halfway through the first over. After 4 overs the Wood were on target to chase down the imposing total. Craig batted on with Pete although timing was an issue with both batsmen probably targeting the back wall too much rather than taking the threes on offer. Abdul hit another 25 and Shaz holed out soon after.
Momentum was lost after the initial flurry with batsmen attempting too many big hits. In addition Chingford looked far sharper in the field. Floppy was run out by Chris ball watching hoping his shot would defy gravity and go for six rather than hitting the ceiling. Craig and Chris faced out the final couple of overs playing some big shots and getting us through to 154. Chris finishing caught on 47 off the last ball of the innings, bottle job.
After Floppy’s display with the ball he has been made captain for next week. This is due to Shaz not wanting to be seen at the Peter May Centre again due to his fielding display and captaincy, including the decision to give Floppy 3 overs. Harold Wood hope to bounce back over the Christmas period.
