Harold Wood Cricket Club 2nd XI - Saturday v Shenfield on Sat 10 Jun 2006 at 1:30
Harold Wood Cricket Club Won 2 wickets
Match report
Harold Wood 2nd XI won their second game in succession to move within striking range of the top two of their division. Having lost the toss Wood bowled first and it was opening bowler Naveed Khan who impressed the most with bowling figures of 10-4-11-4 with the new ball, this left Shenfield on 37 for 4 but some slightly wayward bowling later on the innings allowed then to escape being skittled. Shabbier Khan who had taken 7 wickets the week before bowled 16-2-71-2 to get slightly different bowling figures but he still did a good job in the hot conditions. Shenfield finished with 215 for 8 off their 52 overs probably a slightly below par score on the good Harold Wood pitch. Wood lost captain Tom Clarke for 0 second ball of their reply but then his brother Peter Clarke (47) and Darren Ellis put on 90 for the second wicket to give Wood the foundation they needed for their run chase to be successful. Although the usual Wood wobble occurred, unlike in previous run chases people were chipping in with useful 20’s instead of single figure scores. Hargit Jagder particularly impressed on debut with a useful 22 and it was up to the experienced Gary Smith and the youthful shot making of Jon Hunt who eventually saw Wood to their victory target with 2 overs remaining and 2 wickets in hand.
