Match report Harold Wood were left frustrated with themselves as they passed up an excellent opportunity to move into the top 2 places of division three. Playing Benfleet away Wood started well with tight bowling from openers Richard Brabner (2-60) and Hitesh Sharma, however the Wood fielding was not at its best. Twice eventual Benfleet centurion A Scott (109) was dropped as Benfleet slowly crept up to the 200 mark. Ali Raza marked his return to the Wood 1st XI after injury with very solid bowling figures of 3-38, but in hindsight Wood can feel that they let Benfleet have 30-50 runs more than they really should have got as they ended on 210-5. However at tea Wood were confident as they knew they had chased similar totals with ease in the past few weeks. However a big blow came when inform Sri Mangalapally fell for just 8 runs, This meant that someone else would have to play the big innings. This just seemed to evade those batsman who got starts, fellow opener Nadeem Sohail made 30 before falling LBW, Rahiil Mirza was on 31 before being caught and number six Hitesh Sharma made a good 31 before he was bowled playing a rash shot. Wickets continued to fall and Wood were indebted to a 9th wicket partnership of 50 between Ali Raza (22) and Peter Clarke (28) however with 5 overs left Raza was stumped leaving Wood no choice but to hold out for the draw, Wood eventually were 190-9.
