Match report It was deja vu for the Wood first team this week, as once again a good fielding performance led to an explosive first wicket stand that meant the Wood had a comfortable victory. Old Brentwoods were the team on the receiving end and after being put into bat they started really slowly but steadily finally losing their first wicket on 71 but in the 25th over. However from then on they lost wickets steadily. Richard Brabner bowled two excellent spells of bowling, one with the new ball, to finish with figures of 4-36 whilst stand in Captain Kevin Gibson took his second consecutive five wickets haul finishing with 5-46 as he and Brabner combined to skittle Old Brents for a disappointing 154, on what looked an excellent track. Then enter Wood openers Nadeem Sohail and Sri Mangalapally, the two combined to make the Old Brent’s score look very feeble indeed. When Sri went for 70 the team score was on 102 and it was only the 10th over. Sohail (44*) was joined by Rahill Mirza (25*) as the two finished off the chase in just the 21st over. Wood will face Old Southendians in a big game this Saturday as both look to push on and secure a promotion place.
