Match report Wood first XI won an incredible game to keep in touch with the promotion places in div 3. In Epping’s Bangladeshi overseas player S Chawdhury they found an incredibly exciting and destructive opponent. Chawdhury watched from one end as Epping wickets fell early on, Richard Brabner (3-61) and Shaz Hafeez (3-47) the destructors with the ball. However Wood had not counted on Chawdhury, who let his bat do the talking as he despatched the ball to all parts on a usual very good batting track at Harold Wood Park. Chawdhury smashed 153 before he was finally out with the Epping score on 213, a really incredible effort. Epping eventually were all out for 230 off just 38.4 overs, Craig Sampson taking 3-36 to get rid of the tail. In reply Nadeem Sohail and Harold Wood overseas batsman Sri Mangalapally put on a century partnership for the first wicket before Sri fell for 63. When Rahill Mirza fell for just 6 an important 50 run partnership between Dave Hollingsworth (25) and Sohail got the score up to 182 before a dreaded Wood collapse once more occurred, as the 2 set batsmen as well as three others fell to leave Wood struggling on 206 for 7. However the hero of the win over Woodford Green a few weeks ago, Richard Brabner, managed to score a patient 23 not out and with some lusty blows from captain Shaz Hafeez got Wood home with 3 wickets in hand and 3 overs left.
