Leigh on Sea v Harold Wood Cricket Club 2nd XI - Saturday on Sat 10 May 2008 at 13:00
Match was Drawn

Match report The first league game saw the Wood batting first. Grant Apicella appearing in his first league game for the club compiled a patient 57, before the hot weather took its toil and he finally sucumbed to an outstanding slip catch. Peter Clarke provided the support to Grant and himself was out for 30 after another superb slip catch. The Wood struggled for a while on what was a slow pitch with variable bounce before Faisal Iqbal also making his first league game hit a stunning 44, with some hard hitting.

Wood started well in the field with some tight bowling by skipper Gary Smith and Chris Hall, but Leigh started to get on top. At 120 for 2 it seemed that Leigh were on course for a win. A bowling change bringing Sampson and Sharma on changed the game and started to swing in Woods direction. Tight bowling between the two resulted with 30 consecutive balls bowled and no runs conceeded. This put pressure on the Leigh batsman and with another change bringing on Faisal Iqbal, taking 3 wickets and Sharma in good form with the ball it was just not to be Woods day.
