Harold Wood Cricket Club 2nd XI - Saturday v Westcliff-on-Sea on Sat 05 Jul 2014 at 13.00pm
Match was Drawn

Match report Harold Wood turned up looking to continue their recent good form.

Once again, Captain Fantastic lost the toss once again and Harold Wood were inserted. Naddy was given out (allegedly edging it off his bicep) by the returning fielder, Stuart Sampson. Pete also came and went early doors which meant a rebuild was on the cards. As always though, the attacking intent remained, Burhan hitting the opening bowler back over his head numerous times. Unfortunately he was bowled by a slower ball and went for an enterprising 30. Stu Connor somehow managed to hit a slower ball full toss on his legs to the fielder at midwicket and the Wood found themselves 120-4 at drinks.

Fielding extraordinaire, Stuart Sampson arrived at the crease with the intention of rebuilding the innings, putting on a good partnership with Harold Wood second team 'stopper'. Unfortunately, having hit his first 6 of the season, the back stop got ahead of himself and 'choked' on his way to his first second team ton. Bonner came to the crease and unleashed havoc as per usual, it is rumoured that one of the sixes still hasn't landed. Bonner's departure brought specialist lower order batsman Bill King to the crease. The Westcliff opening bowler/captain feeling the onslaught of the batting all rounder, going for 23 off the over. This brought about an early declaration at the end of the 41st over.

Harold Wood started well with the new ball, Bill King beating the bat on numerous occasions... Usman was a class above early doors and broke through with an edge that was grabbed by Bill King in the slips.

Unfortunately, at this point the rain came and the Wood were off for over an hour.

Once the boys returned after the rain break the pitch had lost all the life it displayed early doors. Seven catchers were in place at all times and regular break throughs were made, unfortunately no collapse took place as hoped and the Wood had to settle for 10 points. All bowlers did all they could but the lifeless pitch killed off any hopes of victory with the opposition blocking out for the draw from the outset.

Such is life, the Wood move on to next week where they hope for a positive result against Gidea Park.
