In-form opening pair Nadeem Sohail and Mangalapally Srinivas put Benfleet to the sword as Harold Wood cruised to a nine wicket win to dent Benfleet’s promotion hopes.

Benfleet were reeling from the outset as opening bowlers Brabner and Sharma destroyed their top order, leaving the home side 44-5. Then the most extraordinary period of cricket commenced as Benfeet’s skipper ordered their batsmen to block the bowling. They went past the 52 over mark with only 92 on the board and it took another 14 frustrating overs to finally bowl Benfleet out. Their tactics were exposed with Wood’s batting onslaught, as they reached the target after 17.4 overs.

Wood’s eighth win of the league season propels them 15 points clear at the top after Old South’s drew with Buckhurst Hill.
