Match report Wood also managed to get a 2nd XI game on at Old Chelmsfordians and although it was a young side they played magnificently under the veteran leadership of Terry Pound. Ironically it was the 2 players in the Wood side who could actually qualify as Old Chelmsfordians in a few years time who did the damage with bat and ball. Fourteen-year-old Jamie Goldstein carried his bat to score 74 not out and to lead Wood to an excellent 171 for 5 off their 40 overs. He was supported well by fifteen-year-old Billy Winters (30) and some big hits from Brad Ayling who scored 19 off just 8 balls near the end of the innings. Old Chelmsfordians started slowly but without losing a wicket until the introduction of Goldstein’s class mate Harry Hodges came on to do the damage. He took 4 for 12 in 7 overs and put the Old Chelmsfordians batting line up in disarray. All they could do from then on was to try and hold on for a draw. Fawaad Uddin did manage to pick up 2-4 off his 4 overs but this only made the game drag on more as the Old C’s closed on 89 for 6. A good day for performances however for the Harold Wood youth section.
