Five & Heronians v Harold Wood Cricket Club 1st XI - Saturday on Sat 02 Jul 2011 at 13.00pm
Harold Wood Cricket Club Lost 5 wickets

Match report Positive loss for The Wood.

If there could ever be such thing as a positive loss Saturday was it as the Wood played away at Fives & Heronians.

Wood being positive from their win last week against Orsett (batting first) and captain Rizwan Qureshi's 7 wicket haul saw them win the toss & bat again.

Fives opened up with a seamer and their current bowling star of spin Ryan Cunningham, although he was played well by openers Nadi and Vicar, his first spell ended wicketless. Nadi was the first one to go, caught behind at the wicket after getting a thin tickle through to the keeper for a teenage score. The middle order batted well throughout a fairly tight Fives bowling attack. The Vicar anchored the innings with 49 and was supported well by no.4 Razor who looked the man in form before hauling out to long on for 35. (at least it wasn't a scoop shot!) The Tory boy (56) and Gibbo (56) batted well to bring the wood up with the run rate. The innings was finished off by Hamzah "the kid" Ikram & Craig "blondy/Ginge" Sampson. Wood finished on a respectable 242-7 off 52 overs.

Tea was had and Wood struck early with the bowling of The Kid who got one to nip off the seam and get an inside edge to a well taken low catch by Hydey. From then on Hamzah was expensive as the batsman worked him to the legside boundary & his spell was ended. That would also be the wicket before the drought as Fives opener tee'd off and went to work on Rizzy Bhai, losing about 2 or 3 balls in the process! He was supported well by the no.3 before he fell for 96 to Rizwan with a good catch from Razor at long off.

The no.3 batted on to make a good 66 before he also fell victim to Skipper Riz. But it was too late. Wood looked to put pressure back on fives with Waqas Shafique picking up 2 wickets (1 a well taken catch from the Tory boy Brabner) and this brought out the cameras from Nadi and Hydey! .. Fives then managed to grind out a win, batting aggressively throughout.

Positives are taken from this game as the boys fielded very well and recovered the batting well. We simply did not put enough runs on the board for this road of a wicket. Next week Wood are away for a battle with top of the table Buckhurst Hill and will be hoping on revenge from their opening clash of the 2011 season.
